Broken Heart

The silence screams where laughter used to play
A hollow echo where your voice would stay
The world is painted in a muted grey
Since love departed, taking light away.
Each dawn arrives a stranger to my soul
A heavy weight that takes its bitter toll
I drift adrift, beyond my own control
A fractured ship, upon a stormy shoal.
Remembering the touch, the gentle hand
A castle built upon the shifting sand
Now crumbled ruins I don't understand
A desolation spread across the land.
The simple moments, once a sweet embrace
Now sting and burn, leaving an empty space
I search in vain for your familiar face
Lost in the labyrinth of time and place.
A melody that once brought joy and ease
Now whispers sorrows on the passing breeze
It mocks my spirit, brings me to my knees
Beneath the shadow of a love that flees.
The memories like thorns begin to pierce
A constant ache, a feeling that grows fierce
This lonely sorrow, a relentless curse
Makes every breath a burden, so much worse.
I trace the lines upon my weary palm
Seeking some solace, seeking to be calm
But find no comfort, no restorative balm
Just echoes of a sweet, forgotten psalm.
The stars above still twinkle, cold and bright
Indifferent witnesses to my sad plight
They offer neither warmth nor guiding light
Just endless darkness in the lonely night.
Perhaps with time, the edges will grow dull
The sharpest pains will slowly start to lull
But now the emptiness feels so full
A poignant absence, beautiful and cruel.
I gather fragments of what used to be
A shattered mirror, reflecting back at me
The ghost of happiness, wild and free
A broken heart's eternal elegy.
